Student Vehicles and Parking Lot Driving

Parents and Students,

Please remember to use extra caution when driving in our parking areas especially before and after school.  There are many cars and people coming and going.  The east entrance of the north parking lot is especially dangerous.  Many times cars dart out into traffic and sometimes northbound cars from 9th avenue enter the parking lot quickly without looking.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, the speed limit for the whole school zone is 15 mph on the raod and the speed limit in the parking areas is 10 mph.  We do not want auto accidents for any of our students or community members.  Please use extra caution when driving in these busy areas.  Many of our drivers are new drivers, it never hurts to remind your son or daughter what your expectations are so they will be a safer driver.

Thanks!

Mr. Recker

Homecoming Changes for 2012

Parents and Community Members,

This year we are going to try something new for Homecoming on Friday afternoon.  In the past we have had three separate things happening: an elementary pep rally at the end of the school day, a parade that began at school and ended downtown, and finally, a pep rally downtown.  We were looking for a way to try to combine these three things into a central location and have a great community and school event.

We would like to invite all parents, community members, and Eagle supporters to join our entire Pre-K -12 student body and staff at an outdoor, community pep rally at Sanger Field, beginning at 2:30 on September 28th.  We will use some parts of all three of the above events to create a spirited West Hancock event as we get ready for the big game that night!

We would like all of our community members to either sit in designated spots in the home bleachers or stand along the fence on the north half of the field.  To start our pep rally we will have a parade on the track that will include our band, the homecoming court and attendants, advisory spirit posters and all of our elementary students marching.  The parade will go from the ticket booth north, all the way around to the start / finish line on the track.  The elementary students will sit on the track when they finish marching in.

Once the parade is complete, we will have the pep rally right on the track for all of our students, staff and parents to be involved in.  This should be a great end to our homecoming school week and a great "kick off" for that nights game!

High School Parent Advisory

There will be a high school parent advisory meeting on Wednesday September 19th at 5:15 in the high school library.  If you have not been to a meeting in the past, you can make this your first one.  We will go over some things that are going on in the high school.  I may have some questions for parents and parents can ask me some questions.  We will try to be done by 6:15.

Thanks!

School Pictures are Monday!

Parents,

School pictures are Monday. Please make sure that your son or daughter has picked up a picture form. They are available at the office. We will take pictures of each student, whether they order prints or not. We use these pictures for activity passes and the yearbook.

Thanks!

Advisory Supply Drive

Parents,

As I mentioned in an earlier post, each month we will be focusing on one donation item for the Food Shelf.  This month's item is toothpaste and tooth brushes.  We have had a good start as you can see below:

Thank you to Mrs. Winter and Trinity Thompson for decorating the display case.  We have some items but we would like more.  Please send any items with your student to give to their advisor.  This is a great way for our students and staff to give back to the community.

September is here!

Parents,

We are well into the school year.  It would be a great idea to sit down and have a talk with your student as to how things are going in their classes.

What they are learning...

What they like about school.....

What they are struggling with.....

How are their extra curricular activities are going.....

Anything they want to share with you about school....

JMC access should be up and running.  Mr. Kronneman sent an e mail earlier suggesting you use FireFox when viewing JMC parent access.  If you have any questions please let us know in the office.  What you should be looking for is missing assignments or LI (this means Late Included - it is missing but figured as a zero so you do not get a false impression of the grade.)

The Success Center is still available every night after school for students missing assignments.  We are starting to get a few more people in there but it has been pretty sparse.  Do not be afraid to require your child to stay.  If you have any questions please let us know.

During periods 2-6 right now we have a para professional assigned to help struggling students 1 on 1.  If you are interested in getting some more help for your student please contact me and we can get something worked out.

As I have said many times, the more involvement you can have with your child's education the better the chances of success will be.  Please take an active interest in your child's education and help them in any way that you can.

Have a great week!

Mr. Recker

Photography Class Field Trip

I was able to help chaperone the photography class as we headed out into the community for a nature photo shoot.  Bob and Ruth Baack were our hosts and they have a lovely yard.  There were many flowers, plants and decorations.  It was a great place for Mrs. Carlson's photography students to get some great pictures.  They were working on close ups of flowers and other nature shots.

Thanks so much to Bob and Ruth for hosting us today!
