Forensics Speaker

Mrs. Schoenwetter had a guest speaker in Forsenics last week.  This is her description of the presentation.

Paul Peiplo moved to the Britt area from Milwaukee, WI, where he had retired from being both a police officer and a detective.  He spoke to the students about the many different fields of investigation there are under the general heading of “Forensics”, showed us some of his police gear, and answered questions about his experiences in investigating crimes.  He ended his talk by saying how much he appreciated the “good kids” that we have in this community.

Schmit Family Makes Donation

The Joe and Billie Schmit family have made a donation to the West Hancock Industrial Arts and Agriculture departments.  The last two years the Schmits have made donations to these areas, in which their son Cody was very involved and talented.  This year the funds were combined with Perkins Grant money to purchase a new welder.  The welder will be used by our students in these career related areas.

Jimmy Harris, Mr. Francis, Braden Carlson, Joe Schmit, and Jason Verbrugge with the new welder

Jarred DeVries

On February 9th former Iowa Hawkeye and Detroit Lion Jarred DeVries addressed our student body.  He talked about making good choices, doing what is right and working hard to achieve your goals.  He is a great example of a small town Iowa student athlete who worked hard to achieve great things.  Ask your student about his message.

Coaches vs. Cancer and NIC Corn Bowl Wrestling

The boys basketball team dressed for the Coaches vs Cancer night.

Tonight is the annual Coaches vs. Cancer game in the NIC.  All four locations will be doing activities and dressing in pink to support cancer research.  Our game will be at Belmond Klemme.  Throughout the last weeks we have been doing activities to raise money.  We had a change war last week that was thoroughly dominated by the elementary school students.  The high school and middle school also did a nice job.  This is a great joint effort by our conference, to battle cancer.

Tomorrow will be the first annual NIC Corn Bowl Wrestling Challenge at NIACC.  Each conference will hold its own tournament in two separate gyms beginning at 10:00 AM.  Then at 3:30 the conferences will match up in a dual format.  The Champions from each conference will wrestle each other along with the runners up, third place finishers, and fourth place finishers.  It should be some great wrestling!

Lots of positive things going on in our Conference this weekend!
