Semester Grades

Parents,

Grades should all be updated and finalized for first semester.  If you go on JMC parent access and click on the report card you will find your son or daughter's final grades.  To avoid any confusion I wanted to explain something.  Some of you have asked why the final grade in the online progress report or grade book might be different than the grade on the report card.  The answer to this question is the impact of the semester test, project or assessment.  Some of the teachers included these in the grade book and some did not.  Based on weighting and how the semester test was figured, each class could be a little different.  Semester assessments can be up to 20% of the final grade, some teachers figured the final regular class grade (which you see in the online grade book) and then added the semester final on after.  For those classes you would see an exam grade and then a final grade on the report card.  I hope this clears things up. 

As always if you have concerns about a specific class or grade the teacher is the best source of information.  Don't be afraid to ask teachers about the grade, exam or anything else.

End of First Semester

The first semester is over.  Grades have been posted and can be viewed online.  We will not hand out report cards, but if you would like a paper copy, please contact Peg in the office. Some students may have Incompletes, these need to be taken care of by Friday.  All grades will be final after Friday. 

Second Semester began on Monday.  We were able to get schedules in order and everything seems to be going smoothly.  If you have any questions or concerns about your students new classes do not hesitate to contact their instructor.

Lions Club Supper and Queen of the Court

This Friday we will host Forest City in a quad basketball game beginning at 4:00 pm. 

The Britt Lions Club will be hosting a pulled pork sandwich supper from 5-7 in the high school cafeteria.  There will also be hot dogs available for the kids.  There will be a meal option or a la carte selections available.  Please come out and support the Lions!

The after prom committee will also be hosting their "Queen of the Court" night.  This year adults from the school and community will be dressed up in elegant outfits.  Teachers, Parents, Coaches and Administration will all be involved.  It should be a great evening!

Sportsmanship

We, like many schools, continue to work on our sportsmanship at home events.  At a recent home game, actions and words from some people in our crowd were not appropriate and did not represent West Hancock in a positive way.  We really want all of our students and our community members to do their best to be positive and supportive at all of our events. 

Cheers that are mean spirited, harassing or directed at team members or fans of the opposition are not appropriate.  Harassment of the game officials is also not appropriate. We want our fans to focus on all of the positive things our teams are doing.  We have a lot to be proud of here at West Hancock and we do not want the actions of a few, to overshadow all of the great things that we have going for us!

 Athletic contests are fun, intense and competitive.  This is true for the participants and the spectators.  If we all act appropriately and respectfully we will have a great season.  Lets do our best to show everyone all of the great things about our school, teams, fans and community here at West Hancock!

Advisory Delivery December 7th

Mr. Peterson and Mr. Clark's advisory groups delivered paper products to the Britt Food bank. We continue this project each month.

It has been a nice activity for our advisory program.

Good Luck to Ed Dewall!

After sixteen years of keeping our school clean and running efficiently Ed Dewall is retiring.  Ed has done a great job as our night custodian and has been a valued employee.  Thank you to Ed for all of his years of service.  If you see Ed around town thank him and wish him well.  I know he is looking forward to retirement. 

Please welcome Jim Puffer as Ed's replacement.  Jim has gotten started and Ed has been able to show Jim the ropes.  If you see Jim around school welcome him and make him feel at home.

Over the years I have heard many comments about how clean our school is and how shiny our floors are.  Our custodians do a great job!  Thank you to all of them for their hard work!

Algebra II Project

Mrs. DeHarts Algebra II class participated in a very good project the last few days.  They had to use the math skills they were learning to create a presentation and market their idea to a panel of adults.  The students did a great job!  They dressed professionally, created great presentations and did a great job selling their product! Thank you to Mr. Kronemann, Mrs. Kudej and Mr. Doug Weiland who all helped out as committee members for the presentation!

These were the two groups from Wednesday.  There were six presentations over the course of three days.
